There must have been a time, a long time ago, when the global consensus started to say, ‘You know what? The world is a sphere.
It’s not flat like we imagined it and we aren’t going to fall off it if we get to the edge.’ The trouble is, how long did it take for that mass consciousness shift to happen?
The same could be applied to climate change. At Saveit4aSong we were wondering when the entire planet – governments and all – will agree that the vast majority of scientists and scientific data is correct. We could be headed toward climate catastrophe.
If you still believe that the science is wrong or it’s just a huge scandal created by governments to tax us further, check out the short video below presented by Sir David Attenborough. Created for CBC news's ' The Passionate Eye', it shows Sir David discussing the science that persuaded him climate change is not a myth. The simplicity of the argument is overwhelming, and proves to us just how convincing science and cold hard facts can be when you take time to look at them.
For those of you who don’t know who Sir David Attenborough is, he’s Britain's best-known natural history film-maker, naturalist and broadcaster. Controller of BBC2 from 1965-68, during which time he introduced colour television to Britain, he was then Director of Programmes for the BBC from 1969-1972. In 1973 he abandoned administration altogether to return to documentary-making and writing. A career spanning nearly five decades he has been involved in the making of several landmark BBC series, including: Life on Earth (1979), The Living Planet (1984), The Trials of Life (1990), The Private Life of Plants (1995), The Life of Birds (1998), The Blue Planet (2001), The Life of Mammals (2002), Life in the Undergrowth (2005), Planet Earth (2006) and Saving Planet Earth (2007). He also created a two part documentary entitled The Truth about Climate Change (2008) which is well worth investigating. Use this Link to find out more.
Sir David Attenborough is a passionate environmentalist and ambassador to a small selection of conservation organisations and charities, including Saveit4aSong’s three chosen charities. For us, there is a stronger link. Sir David is the original inspiration behind our campaign song, A.J Moore’s ‘Take it All Away’. (Listen to the track by pressing the sun in the flash player above.)
Without spoiling what’s well worth watching, the evidence is delivered by Professor Peter Cox – world-renowned scientist and author of countless research papers on climate change. He recently addressed the world’s leading climate researchers in Copenhagen, giving a keynote speech at the climate change congress entitled Climate Change: Global Risks, Challenges and Decisions.
