How it all began

It’s still early days for Saveit4aSong, but there’s already plenty to tell you about our story so far. Some great people have given their time and expertise to help us on our way and we’re very excited about it’s development.

The Climate Change Awareness Song: Take It All Away

A.J Moore is no stranger to writing beautiful songs. His album, set to release next year contains a variety of styles, rich in harmonics and feel. But it was one day in 2009, when he wrote a piece of music on the guitar that made his Saveit4aSong partner and co-lyricist, Gillian Harding, think of BBC’s Planet Earth series, and the UK’s beloved presenter and Naturalist, Sir David Attenborough. This was the inspiration for writing a song about climate change.

“AJ played this most incredible piece, that just seemed to come out of him from nowhere. When I heard that music, it reminded of the orchestration soundtracks used for the Planet Earth series. We adore the work of Sir David. He seems to have empathy, compassion and respect for any type of living creature, no matter how big, small, cute or ugly. We’re positive that he is largely responsible for many people’s love for nature today…Living in central London with busy urban lives means that, for us, these wildlife films sometimes feel like our only connection with the natural world.”

AJ adds “Take it all Away took quite a time to finish - the problem was we had to perfect the lyrics to make sure they worked. A song about the environment is incredibly tricky. It's so easy to slip into insincere cliches.”

The song was originally recorded in April 2009 with the help of Al Gurr (a session musician and producer who toured with AJ during New Zealand classical star, Hayley Westenra’s River of Dreams tour). At this point the song was sent to Sir David Attenborough. The pair wanted him to be the first to hear it because it had been written it in his honour. They also wanted his recommendation on which conservation charities the song could champion. He wrote a heart-felt letter in return stating; “I am very touched that you should say that I inspired you both to write it, that is indeed a great compliment, thank you very much indeed.”

Following Sir David’s advice, AJ and Gillian have since visited The World Land Trust (WLT), The Fauna and Flora International (FFI) and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), who are all excited by the potential of the project. (See our Charities page)

The final version of the song which can be heard below, is to be released as a single later this year. The release date is still to be confirmed. A.J's full debut album 'Harmonics' will be released in January 2012. You will be able to buy the single from all major online shops with proceeds helping our chosen charities.

Gillian’s branding and digital design agency, Fuel Creativity Ltd (FCL) then set-about designing and building the Saveit4aSong website. Gillian states; ‘My team have been wonderful and we have all embraced the project. So far FCL is using it’s profits to kick-start the site, but we will need to find a sponsor for Saveit4aSong soon so we can continue to develop it during 2011.” Gillian would like to dedicate more time and resources to enhancing and developing Saveit4aSong.com.
